Resolution on Universal Health Care

September 9, 1999

  • Whereas Catholic theology teaches that health care is a basic human right, and

  • Whereas the market system denies health care to 43 million people in the U.S., and

  • Whereas the American medical system neglects a great number of people in Appalachia who suffer from common illnesses and disabilities including, black lung, brown lung, and carpal tunnel syndrome,

Be it resolved that the Catholic Committee of Appalachia promotes and calls for universal health care that provides both allopathic and other complementary methods of medical practice, and

Be it resolved that CCA invite all Catholic dioceses and their people to do the same.

Implementation:

The Catholic Committee of Appalachia will promote universal health care through its newsletter PatchQuilt.

The Catholic Committee of Appalachia, through its office, will send a letter to other Catholic dioceses inviting their support in calling for universal health care.
