CCA Annual Gathering 2020 to Be a Virtual Event
After much discussion, the CCA Board and the Annual Gathering Planning Committee have decided that, rather than canceling or postponing the 50th Anniversary, the 2020 Annual Gathering previously scheduled to be in Charleston, WV over the weekend of September 11-13, will now be an online event. As painful as it was to come to the conclusion we should not get together in person for this important celebration, the health and well being of our membership and guests obviously must come first.
The 2020 Annual Gathering Committee and the CCA Board are excited about the opportunity to gather, connect, and learn from each other in creative new ways during this time. The weekend will include many of the main features of our in-person annual gatherings:
Virtual keynote addresses by activist Bill McKibben and activist-theologian Ched Myers
Online concert with songwriter Tom Breiding
Greetings and updates from CCA Episcopal Adviser Bishop John Stowe and CCA Co-Coordinators
Virtual liturgical prayer and discussion
The annual gathering will continue beyond the weekend with a series of online workshops throughout the rest of the month of September on such diverse topics as the COVID-19 pandemic, addiction, LGBTQ+ people in the church, art and the environment, the history of the Appalachian pastorals, and more.
Throughout the month, we'll use a variety of online tools to reflect and reminisce together on CCA's HALF CENTURY of raising a prophetic voice for Appalachia!
A Facebook event page and registration information will be launched soon. Keep your eyes on CCA's Facebook page, Facebook group, and www.ccappal.org/annual-gathering for more information.
